Thirumanam ennum Nikkah music Review

        THIRUMANAM ENNUM NIKKAH

                      MUSIC REVIEW

Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah, directed by debutant Aneer under Aascar Films production, stars Jai, Nazriya Nazim and Hebbah Patel in the lead along with a large supporting cast. Music is by Ghibran featuring songs written by various lyricists.

1) Chillendra Chillendra

Singers: Kaushiki Chakrabarty, M.Ghibran, Munna Shaaukat Ali, Sundar Narayana Rao
Lyrics: Kaadhal Mathi, Munna Shaaukat Ali
The interesting album begins with a beautiful fusion between Qawwali and Melody. The breezy orchestration and wonderful chorus keeps the track going and interestingly the song is based on Carnatic Harikambhoji scale (C Major in Western Classical Music). While the male singer sings in Tamil, the female singer replies gracefully in Hindi- making it a winner!

2) Enthaaraa Enthaaraa
Singers: Chimayi, Shadab Faridi
Lyrics: Karthik Netha
The track begins with lilting piano with trance like orchestration leading to a wondrous world of the pallavi with confident voice of Shadab Faridi and Chinmayi. While Shadab Faridi’s singing style reminds of Kailash Kher when he sings the higher octaves, his voice is mesmerizingly complemented by the lower octave singing of Chinmayi. The recurring piano gives a great feel to the song and the trace beats make it even better. The track sure sounds like a new experimentation in terms of composing and sound highly promising from a composer like Ghibran- who is known for versatility!

3) Kannukkul Pothivaippen

Singers: Charulatha Mani, Dr. R.Ganesh, Sadhana Sargam, Vijay Prakash
Lyrics: Parvathy
Carnatic styled vocals are supported brilliantly by sequencing and trance orchestration. The beautiful aspect is that- the orchestration never overrides the lead singing. The song begins with Carnatic ragam Bhairavi leading gracefully to Hindustani Raag Behag and the singers do a phenomenal job. The Jaltarang touch in the orchestration is another highlight for a track like this.

4) Rayile Raa

Singers: Ashwitha, “Isai Mazhalai” Haresh, Bonnie Chakrabarty, Nivas
Lyrics: Thenmozhi Das
The track begins most unusually with sound of a child crying which is sequenced skillfully leading to an industrial sound, where experimentation has no limit! Interestingly the song is based on Carnatic Raaga Keeravani scale brilliantly woven in the midst of House mix and superior sequencing. The long winding progressive vocal melody leads to a punchy and memorable chorus. Though it is paced up, the track carries a tense feeling throughout including the interludes.

5) Yaaro Ival

Singers: Yazin Nizar
Lyrics: Parvathy
The track begins brilliantly with electric guitar and a faint solo humming supported prodigiously by string section. Yazin Nizar delivers par excellence in terms of vocals and the track is almost perfectly supported by the percussions and timely chorus.  Though it follows Western Classical C Major scale essentially throughout, Ghibran gives additional touches to the song by slightly deviating from it in appropriate times.

6) Kwaja Ji

Singers: Aritullah Shah Khalif-e-Rifayee and group
Lyrics: Nizami
A traditional Dargah track arrives finally, delivered perfectly by Aritullah Shah Khalif- e- Rifayee and group. The song has a peaceful feel throughout and the vocalists provide all what the track needs! The  track is based on Carnatic Raagam Mohanam sung in Hindustani style.

Verdict: Brilliant Ghibran delivers one of the best albums of the year.
